Cross Street Community of NYC believes that time is too short, and people need God, and through God, we are called to be a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community with a mission of serving LGBTQIA+ youth and young people of New York City with a focus toward community building, recreation, social events, creative arts, and hospitality.
We expand our mission by providing hospitality, compassion, and love to those experiencing houselessness, housing insecurities, and/or commercially sexually exploited (human trafficked). We seek to break down the barriers for those who are marginalized and oppressed by society through creative, and inclusive worship, programs, advocacy, community building, and love.
Statement of Inclusion
Cross Street Community of NYC has been called by God to be a worship community that welcomes and fully values all persons. Our diversity is a gift of God and essential to our witness to the Gospel. Since the beginning, Cross Street Community became a member of the More Light Presbyterians. The mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, transgender, queer (or questioning), intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people in the life, ministry, and qitness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.
Matthew 25 Worshiping Community.
Matthew 25:31–46 calls all of us to actively engage in the world around us, so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities. Convicted by this passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 and 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.
Cross Street Community of NYC is lovated in Ridgewood, NY in the bourough of Queens, New York City. Our community does not have a permanent space, as we are currently in the development stages. We are "nesting" with Ridgewood Presbyterian Church for the time being, and worship in various areas of the Ridgewood community.
Our community is diverse and unique. While we follow the Presbyterian Church (USA) traditions, our ministry is different than a traditional church. First, we welcome ALL into our community. Our community is made up of residents (members), resident advisors (leadership), and a community leader (pastor). Our community is designed by our residents, and implimented through our resident advisiors.
Cross Street Community welcomes ALL youth and young adults who may identify as LGBTQIA+, housless, and/or victims of human trafficking, and their allies. We are a community for all, and ALL means ALL are welcome!
